In the pouring rains we're staring down this road again We kept right on walking, sidestepping insanity and we fucking prayed there'd be a means to the ends now we're running redlights to hide or survive or to get nowhere at all flooded by the headlines that left us empathy deprived with stupidity as our grandest praise we walk un-fazed and swinging at everything in site as if there's a way to prove what a man should be and there ain't a damn thing we can do to stop it I dont know if we know how to be there for each other anymore There was a war inside us and we couldnt see the scheme the lasting light hung dull enough to not give us up so when the doors opened, we were the last ones standing and you looked through me as it all went by I ran every red light to get back to the tracks in time and i learned it's the little things that keep us going like names and a date carved in the trestle frame reminding me not to run in front of that train Most of us just want to live outspoken and forged anew in the path we were convinced of we'll live to lift these hanging heads they get nothing more from us.

Their fields were once so pretty now a bomb fails to justify where they slipped in our defeat Those conversations spoke volumes to me I built a foundation on reasoning and aimed to discard grandeur for beauty no longer digging through the hurt to find the worst in a cycle we needed to break if this microphone is a vehicle for change then we must resist the vacancy that's blanketing I will take my aim from the same old place sheltering my spirit from the emptiness that pervades in a Removal Act tactic they ripped from history's playbook like a reared-up disguise in a mellow sunrise that hides then blinds our purpose We make a choice to think or fail: A principle that unveiled itself to me and never left my side because my mind belongs to me and my spirit belongs to me I'm not giving it all away Im not trading conviction for apathy Im not giving it all away Im not trading this clarity for anything

I wish we could’ve been there I never could shed yesterday’s skin when the “until next times” turn into “I may never see you agains” we vow to remember that It’ll always be more than a sound to us and we’ll hold close every word we said It’s in the action and the first step you take when you walk off that plank And you know that it’s over but it’s truly just beginning It’s that conflicting feeling that strikes when you haven’t slept in days And you’re left stumbling out of the van half-awake knowing an old familiar face will redeem that faith before morning steals us away Maybe (maybe) we walk off with dignity Every fight outweighed by the belief in what this meant Even if there’s nothing left of you and me here It was for the kids who lost all faith in this life And those who beat their heads against the wall You can take the ideal to the world outside and we’ll kiss these rooms goodbye As we tip our hats to half-mast flags and moments of silence And farewell hugs on the steps outside will remind us of what we leave behind We could still be a movement. There’s so much more to say. We don’t have to die in Jackson’s shade before the crossing with this marrow of doubt in our bones romanticizing the beliefs we thought we couldn’t hold as we grew older Old man, can’t you see- we all ache, we all need, we all mourn, we’re all losing What is the same of me is the same of you I’ll hold here.
